- Participants must be 18 years of age to participate in the adult category. Participants must be 13 to 17 years of age with parental consent to participate in the youth category.

- Participants must be registered, fees paid, and have waivers signed by the end of the day on September 11th, 2026. 

- Participants teams consist of 2 people.

- There will be a men's, women's, and youth divisions. Co-ed teams that register will compete in the men's category. 

- Cost to participate is $50 per team. Entry fee is due upon registration.

- Participants can register by clicking on the red "Register Here" box that will take you to the registration page. Entry fees can be e-transfered to cranberry.portage.winterfest@gmail.com

- Participants may bring their own canoe, but we will have some available to borrow on a first come first serve basis. Please indicate on your registration form notes if your team requires a canoe. We will notify you by email if there are any available. A $50 refundable deposit will be required in order to borrow a canoe.

- Participants must supply their own lifejackets and paddles if they are supplying their own canoe, and adults must bering their own axe and method for carrying it for the teaboil.

- Proper footwear is mandatory. No flip flops, crocs, ect. Trail may be slippery in some areas so no footwear that can slip.

- There will be water stations along the route.

- Participants will meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Cranberry Portage Historical Marker in Athapap Park to sign in. Once signed in, participants will receive further directions on how to transport equipment to the race starting point.

- Competitors will begin the race with an approximately 500 meter paddle from the Engaged Learners site to the First Cranberry Dock (Viking Lodge).

- The portage portion of the race is approximately 2.3km. Participants will follow the signs and make their way towards the Little Dock Beach on Lake Athapapuskow. Participants must carry their paddles and lifejackets with them.

- Once your team has reached Old Swim Beach, you will begin to build your fire and boil you tea. The following will be provided for the tea boil: tea pot (metal coffee can with soapy water), 1 box wooden matches, wood.

- Youth participants will be provided with split wood and do not require an axe. Adults must carry their axe for the portage race.

- Fires will be made on the beach.

- Penalty time will be added if more matches are needed or "tea" is spilled.

- The tea must boil in order to be eligible for prize money.
